why not me?
In September of 2024, I was coming up on my three-year anniversary of working for The Rink Live, which was essentially my dream job, and I was nine-months pregnant at the time, preparing to meet my daughter at any moment. That’s when everything was turned upside down.
I was informed that my position at TRL was being eliminated and that the website wasn’t going to be funded for the upcoming season. I was gutted. After all the time and energy I spent putting into writing and covering aspects of the sport that no one else had, my job was gone. That was a hard reality to accept being someone that was about to enter on maternity leave and return jobless.
I took a few days to mourn this life-changing event, but instead of letting anger and sadness take over, I decided that I wanted to create a new venture of my own. I simply worked too hard on my content to stop writing altogether. I knew it would take a lot of hard work, time and dedication to get a website and social media pages up and running but I thought it would be a good project for me while I was a stay-at-home mom for the first few months of my daughter’s life.
And now - voila! Clean Sheet Hockey now exists and I’m ready to keep on pushing the boundaries of hockey coverage and bring everyone features on prospects in both men’s and women’s hockey, data on subjects such as NAHL tenders and the transfer portal, and other topics that simply aren’t covered anywhere else.
Obviously, being an independent journalist now means that I’m not financially supported by anyone, so all I ask is that if you enjoy my coverage (which I will ALWAYS keep for free - I don’t use paywalls!) to help support me through the donation page. Thanks in advance, and I’ll see you out at the rink!
